THE CITY AND ITS CHALLENGES
Pernambuco wood (Pau Brasilia echinata) is now threatened and increasingly rare. Its natural habitat, Brazil's Atlantic rainforest, has been reduced to fragments of its original extent.
IPCI France Europe is a non-profit organization promoting the sustainable use of Pernambuco wood. It dedicated since 1999 to its conservation through replanting programs. It collaborates with IPCI Germany and IPCI USA, forming an international association.
SUPPORT
With its commitmentiPCI France Europe supports pernambuco-related professions, particularly musicians and music professionals.
Pernambuco and CITES regulations
Since September 13, 2007, Pernambuco - originally under the botanical name Caesalpinia echinata, which became synonymous with Paubrasilia echinata in 2019 - has been listed in CITES Appendix 2 with annotation #10.
After a rejected Brazilian proposal in 2022 requesting its transfer to Appendix I, annotation #10 has been amended and there is a strong chance that Brazil will again request the species' transfer to Appendix I at CoP20, to be held from November 24 to December 5, 2025.
